Can a PR agency fix lost AI search visibility?

By the RankNext team · Updated July 2026

The short answer

Only partially. A PR agency can earn the third-party mentions AI engines use to corroborate that your business is real and reputable, and that part is genuinely valuable. But PR cannot fix blocked crawlers, broken site structure, missing schema, or a stale business profile, and those are the usual culprits. Diagnose the actual cause before hiring anyone.

Give PR its due here. Engines like ChatGPT and Perplexity corroborate across independent sources before they name a business, so mentions in local press, trade publications, and trusted directories are real fuel. That side of the work is exactly what our guide to brand visibility in AI search covers.

But when visibility drops, the cause is usually mechanical: a robots.txt rule blocking AI crawlers, pages that only render in JavaScript, missing schema, or a business profile nobody has updated in a year. Those are the common culprits behind not showing up in AI search, and no press release fixes any of them. A PR retainer pointed at a robots.txt problem is expensive theater.

So diagnose before you hire. If crawlers can reach your site, your pages parse cleanly, and your profile is current, yet the engines still never mention you, PR is the right tool. Run it in that order and the retainer buys mentions instead of theater.
