Who does AI recommend for well drilling company work in Chicago, IL?

In Chicago proper, "well drilling" usually means one of two things: water wells (rare in the city, since Chicago is on Lake Michigan water, but common for homes in the outer suburbs/exurbs) or geothermal/ground-source heat pump loop drilling, which is more active in the city and inner suburbs. Here are the best-regarded options depending on what you need: Water well drilling (mostly serves Chicago-area exurbs) - Aqualine Well & Pump – One of the more widely used residential well and pump contractors in the region; known for service, maintenance, and rehabilitation work. - Layne Christensen (now part of Granite) – A large national firm with a Chicago-area presence; strong for municipal, industrial, and high-capacity wells rather than small residential jobs. - Water Well Solutions – A Chicagoland well and pump service company handling drilling, rehab, and emergency service. Geothermal / ground loop drilling (best fit inside Chicago) - Subsurface Constructors – St. Louis-based but works the Chicago market; specializes in geothermal bore fields and deep foundation drilling. - Ground Loop Drilling / various HVAC-affiliated drillers – Many Chicago geothermal installs are subcontracted to specialized loop drillers partnered with HVAC firms; getting quotes through a geothermal HVAC contractor is often the practical route. A few caveats worth knowing - Chicago city itself is almost entirely on municipal Lake Michigan water, so residential water-well drilling inside city limits is uncommon and may face permitting hurdles. If you're outside the city (e.g., Will, Kane, McHenry, Kendall counties), the residential well drillers above are your best bets. - For deep foundation / geotechnical drilling (not water), firms like Case Foundation and GEI are Chicago mainstays. - Always verify current licensing with the Illinois Department of Public Health (private water wells) and check BBB or Angi reviews, since ownership and reputations change. If you tell me whether you mean a drinking-water well, irrigation well, or geothermal loop—and whether you're inside Chicago or in a suburb—I can narrow it down further.
