Proof and trust

How should an agency report AEO results to clients?

By the RankNext team · Updated July 2026

The short answer

An agency should report AEO results as evidence the client can verify: screenshots of AI answers with capture dates, server logs showing AI crawler visits, a list of work actually published, and honest confidence labels on every metric. Pair that with month-to-month pricing, so the report has to justify the fee every single cycle.

Evidence matters more here than in classic SEO because AI answers move around. The same question asked twice can return different citations, so a serious report shows dated captures of actual answers plus the boring proof underneath them, like log lines showing GPTBot and PerplexityBot fetching your pages. Anything less is a vendor asking you to take their word for it.

Pricing is the other tell. Most agencies price AEO as a monthly retainer, either bundled into an existing SEO engagement or as a standalone service, and the ones worth hiring will work month to month, because when a client can cancel any time the report has to prove the work happened. Long contracts and vague dashboards tend to travel together; we built our own AEO agency service on the opposite bet.

If you want the underlying method, we published exactly how to measure AI visibility: which questions to track, how often to capture answers, and how to label confidence honestly. Ask any agency you are evaluating to walk you through their version, and if they cannot, keep looking.
