Why doesn't my business show up in AI search results?

The short answer
Usually one of four blockers: AI crawlers can't read your site (blocked or JavaScript-only), your business information is inconsistent across the web, you have too few recent reviews, or your pages never answer the questions customers actually ask. All four are fixable, and a free check shows which ones apply to you.
The four blockers, in the order we usually find them
First, access: a surprising share of local business sites block GPTBot, PerplexityBot, or Applebot with a copy-pasted robots.txt, or render everything in JavaScript that answer-engine crawlers never execute. If the engine can't read you, nothing else matters.
Second, corroboration: AI engines recommend businesses they can verify. If your name, phone, services, and cities differ between your site, your Google Business Profile, and the directories, the engine treats you as uncertain — and uncertain businesses don't get named. Third, reviews: recent, replied-to reviews are the trust signal we see in nearly every AI-recommended business. Fourth, content: pages that say “quality service since 1998” give an engine nothing to quote; pages that say what you do, where, with specifics, do.
How to find out which blocker is yours
Don't guess — check. Run your site through a crawler-access test, then ask each engine the questions your customers ask (“best septic pumping near me” style) and note who gets named instead of you. The pattern tells you the fix: absent everywhere means access or corroboration; named occasionally but never first usually means reviews and content depth.
