How do I see what AI currently says about my business?
Answered by Ryan, RankNext strategist · Updated July 2, 2026
The short answer
Ask the engines your customers' real questions and record the answers: “best [your trade] near me in [your city],” the emergency version, and your business name directly. Do it across ChatGPT, Google (AI Overview), and Perplexity — or run our free check, which does it systematically and shows who gets named and why.
The DIY audit, done properly
Write down the five to ten questions a customer would actually ask — trade plus city, the urgent variant, the comparison variant (“who's the best…”), and your brand name straight up. Ask each engine, and record three things per answer: who gets named, what evidence the engine cites for them, and whether anything it says about your market is wrong.
Repeat monthly, same questions, and you have a real baseline instead of a feeling. The competitor patterns are the actionable part: the businesses being named share visible traits — review recency, page specificity, profile completeness — and the traits are your to-do list.
The systematic version
Our free Local AI Visibility Check runs this process against your market in about a minute: the real near-me answers for your trade and city, where you appear versus who does, and the specific gaps ranked by impact. No account, no call.
For clients we run it continuously — the same buyer questions captured month over month with stored receipts — because a one-time snapshot tells you where you stand, but the time series tells you whether the work is working.
